Equine maxillary cheek teeth are characterized by two deep enamel invaginations, the mesial and the distal infundibula. The infundibula consist of the surrounding infundibular enamel and a filling of infundibular cementum. The appearance of infundibula is subjecteted to a large varibility, which is an result of differences in shape and an often incomplete filling of infundibular cementum. These anatomical variations complicate the classification of infundibula depending on pathological situations. Nevertheless a precise classification of infundibula is essential for potentially required therapy. The aim of this study was to describe the infundibulum of equine maxillary cheek teeth (CT) with the help of histological and micro-computertomographical (µ-CT) examinations. The main focus was set on the embryological development of the infundibulum in relation to anatomical variations like cemental hypoplasia, focal enamel hypoplasia and red discolourations of the infundibular cementum. Already known anatomical particularities of infundibula known to cause infundibular diseases should be confirmed and specified, additional associations with endodontic diseases should be exposed.en
