Item A change in perspective: The interaction of saccadic and pursuit eye movements in oculomotor control and perception(2021) Göttker, Alexander; Gegenfurtner, Karl R.Due to the close relationship between oculomotor behavior and visual processing, eye movements have been studied in many different areas of research over the last few decades. While these studies have brought interesting insights, specialization within each research area comes at the potential cost of a narrow and isolated view of the oculomotor system. In this review, we want to expand this perspective by looking at the interactions between the two most important types of voluntary eye movements: saccades and pursuit. Recent evidence indicates multiple interactions and shared signals at the behavioral and neurophysiological level for oculomotor control and for visual perception during pursuit and saccades. Oculomotor control seems to be based on shared position- and velocity-related information, which leads to multiple behavioral interactions and synergies. The distinction between position- and velocity-related information seems to be also present at the neurophysiological level, too. In addition, visual perception seems to be based on shared efferent signals about upcoming eye positions and velocities, which are to some degree independent of the actual oculomotor response. This review suggests an interactive perspective on the oculomotor system, based mainly on different types of sensory input, and less so on separate subsystems for saccadic or pursuit eye movements.Item Item Applicant versus employee scores on self-report emotional intelligence measures(2011) Lievens, Filip; Klehe, Ute-Christine; Libbrecht, NeleThere exists growing interest to assess applicants emotional intelligence (EI) via self-report trait-based measures of EI as part of the selection process. However, some studies that experimentally manipulated applicant conditions have cautioned that in these conditions use of self-report measures for assessing EI might lead to considerably higher scores than current norm scores suggest. So far, no studies have scrutinized self-reported EI scores among a sample of actual job applicants. Therefore, this study compares the scores of actual applicants at a large ICT organization ( n = 109) on a well-known self-report measure of EI to the scores of employees already working in the organization ( n = 239). The current study is the first to show that applicants scores on a self-report measure of EI during the selection process are indeed higher ( d = 1.12) and have less variance ( SD ratio = 0.86/1) than incumbents scores. Finally, a meta-analytic combination of our results with those of earlier research showed that a score increase of about 1 SD in applicant conditions seems to be the rule, regardless of the type of setting, self-report EI measure, and within- versus between-subjects design employed.Item Arbeit und Emotion : Ein Essay(1990) Frese, MichaelItem Arbeit und psychische Störungen(1981) Frese, MichaelItem Arbeit und psychische Störungen(1987) Frese, MichaelItem Arbeitslosigkeit, Depressivität und Kontrolle : Eine Studie mit Wiederholungsmessung(1979) Frese, MichaelItem Are computers effective lie detectors? : a meta-analysis of linguistic cues todeception(2015) Hauch, Valerie; Blandón-Gitlin, Iris; Masip, Jaume; Sporer, Siegfried L.This meta-analysis investigates linguistic cues to deception and whether these cues can be detected with computer programs. We integrated operational definitions for 79 cues from 44 studies where software had been used to identify linguistic deception cues. These cues were allocated to six research questions. As expected, the meta-analyses demonstrated that, relative to truth-tellers, liars experienced greater cognitive load, expressed more negative emotions, distanced themselves more from events, expressed fewer sensory perceptual words, and referred less often to cognitive processes. However, liars were not more uncertain than truth-tellers. These effects were moderated by event type, involvement, emotional valence, intensity of interaction, motivation, and other moderators. Although the overall effect size was small, theorydriven predictions for certain cues received support. These findings not only further our knowledge about the usefulness of linguistic cues to detect deception with computers in applied settings but also elucidate the relationship between language and deception.Item Ein Beitrag einer neuorientierten Arbeitswissenschaft zur Arbeitslehre(1979) Frese, MichaelItem Bessere Lehrmethoden für die Computerarbeit(1988) Frese, MichaelItem Career adaptability, turnover and loyalty during organizational downsizing(2011) Klehe, Ute-Christine; Zikic, Jelena; Van Vianen, Annelies E. M.; De Pater, Irene E.During organizational restructuring and downsizing, employees often worry about being redundant, actually are redundant, and/or feel unsatisfied with their jobs. Employees, in turn, often react with poor loyalty to and high voluntary exit from the organization. The current study addresses this process from a careers´ perspective, showing that career adaptability in the form of employees´ career exploration and planning can account for at least some of these relationships. Redundancy fostered employees´ career adaptive behaviors while job insecurity inhibited their career planning. Career planning, in turn, positively predicted employees´ loyalty to the organization five months later while career exploration negatively predicted employees´ loyalty, and positively predicted employees´ exit reactions in the form of turnover intentions, job-search behaviors, and actual turnover. Implications and directions for future research are discussed.Item Coping as a moderator and mediator between stress at work and psychosomatic complaints(1986) Frese, MichaelItem Die DIN 33430 eine komplexe Norm für eine komplexe Welt(2008) Klehe, Ute-ChristineDer Artikel setzt sich mit der DIN Norm 33430, die Qualitätsstandards bei Eignungsbeurteilungen etablieren soll und ihrer Implementierung auseinander.Item Do workers want control or don´t they : Some results on denial and adjustment(1983) Frese, MichaelItem Einstellungen zur Technologie und Computern : Entwicklung von Meßinstrumenten(1984) Frese, Michael
