Abstract

This file includes the dataset used in the paper entitled “Influence of subliminal negative and positive ambient scents on wayfinding performance”. Data were collected in an experimental study investigating the influence of unconsciously perceived ambient scents on human wayfinding performance and implicit odor memory. The dataset (N = 22) contains information from participants who learned a route through a virtual maze using visual landmarks under either weakly scented (butyric acid, lavender) or non-scented conditions. Participants’ wayfinding performance was assessed immediately after the learning phase and again after a one-month retention interval. The dataset contains information regarding wayfinding performance, implicit odor memory measures, odor-context fit ratings, odor labeling and recall measures, as well as experimental condition. Participants who consciously remembered the ambient scent in the test cabin were excluded from the analyses.
