Abstract
The village of Kagbeni, situated in an altitude of 2820 m in a valley in central Nepal was one main focus of an interdisciplinary research programme founded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft that studied the settlement processes and the formation of states in the High Himalayas. This paper deals with the natural setting of the village, the effect of erosion processes and the phenomenon of regular valley winds ocurring in the region. Furthermore the agricultural use of the area including questions of water supply and irrigation and the problem of overexploitation of natural ressources are discussed.Link to publications or other datasets
