Interdisciplinary collaborations have become a relevant core variable in the analysis of complex issues in science. Shared research processes are also known as multidisciplinarity, crossdisciplinarity, and transdisciplinarity, which are all closely related to interdisciplinarity. This article traces the meanings, challenges, and benefits of interdisciplinarity on the basis of a lived interdisciplinary collaboration at the interface between sociology and veterinary medicine. An autoethnography of the authors’ interdisciplinary work is presented to highlight the challenges and limits of this practice.
