Ostnepal : Grundzüge des vertikalen Landschaftsaufbaus

Abstract

Nepal liegt im zentralen Raum des Himalayas. Das Land besitzt im Vertikalprofil einen fünfgliedrigen, großräumigen Landschaftsaufbau. Die Höhenunterschiede zwischen Vorland und Hochgebirge, die z.T. mehr als 8000 m betragen, verursachen einen ausgeprägten, hauptsächlich temperaturbedingten, hypsometrischen Klimawandel, der sich in der vertikalen Zonierung von Vegetation und Landnutzung spiegelt. Das Vegetationsprofil reicht von monsuntropischen Salwäldern bis in die Zone feuchter alpiner Matten und tibetischer Steppen. Der Regenfeldbau reicht vom flach gelegenen Terai bis in die extrem Höhe von 4300 m. Die Schwerpunktegebiete für den Bewässerungsfeldbau liegen im Terai und im Becken von Kathmandu. Bewässerungsreisanbau findet man in Ostnepal bis in 2100m Höhe. Die in verschiedene agrarsoziale Gruppen aufgeteilte Bevölkerung Ostnepals ist an die Natur der Umwelt angepasst, gleichzeitig aber auch Gestalter der Kulturlandschaft. Nepal is situated in the central Himalayan region. In its vertical profile the land can be divided into five large regions of terrain formation. The differences in altitude between the lowlands and the alpine region at times amount to more than 26.000 ft. This causes a pronounced, mainly temperature-conditioned hypsometric climatic change which is reflected in the vertical zoning of vegetation and agricultural utilization. The vegetation extends from the monsoon-tropical Sal-forest to the zone of humid alpine meadows and Tibetan steppes. Rain-fed agriculture extends from the lowland Terai to an extreme height of 15.500 ft. The focal points of irrigation agriculture lie in the Terai and in the Kathmandu basin. Irrigated rice cultivation is found in east Nepal to a height of 7.000 ft. The various agro sociological groups of east Nepal is adapted to the natural conditions of the environment but simultaneously act as shapers of the landscape.
